What is Power-to-methane and how does it work?

Power-to-methane is the conversion of electricity and carbon dioxide into synthetic natural gas (SNG)

This process makes it possible to store solar and wind energy in the chemical bonds of methane to use flexibly over time. The synthetic methane can be used for industrial and domestic heating or reconversion back to electricity. It can also be used for transportation, especially in long-distance maritime, road, and air transport, where electrification is not realistically possible.
